We watched some of the 5 soldiers performance as inspiration for the chorus movements.

The soldiers in the video were not only dancing but were acting and a lot of their movements were like soldiers training, for example, press ups.

At the beginning of the movements we learned, we sit as though we are in a helicopter, shaking our bodies as if experiencing turbulence and having our expressions as though we are really about to land for war. We decided that each character should have individual minds meaning that our thoughts and feelings are unique. For example, some people may be nervous or worried whilst others may be motivated and ready to fight.

After this, we studied the video again and learned the next few movements as we thought they looked really good. This process was really fun, and we completed a lot in a small amount of time. It was amazing how much I personally believed that we were all seriously about to fight as I felt everyone’s characters were extremely well developed already.

To help us develop our characters further, we decided which lines of the chorus each of us should say. Some of the lines seemed negative about the war whilst others seemed extremely enthusiastic about it, so we spent time numbering each line and separating them. When we were assigned our lines, this helped us understand how our characters should act.

We also spent time figuring out the structure of some of the piece. For example, we planned how we might like Creon to enter and when that might be.
